Divorce

Barbara E. McNamara - Divorce & Family Law Attorney

Divorce Nobody ever starts out wanting a divorce. When you start a marriage or relationship, you have hopes, dreams and expectations of a bright future with your partner. But never divorce. That—among other reasons—is why ending your relationship can now be such a difficult time. So often there's a feeling of failure, of hopelessness. And you can feel so very, very alone.

Believe me, I understand these feelings. I see them in new clients every day.

The truth is, divorce is never easy. But it can be easier. That's where I come in.

Let me get you during this difficult—and critical—time.

My name is Barbara McNamara and I've devoted my career to helping people like you get through divorce and other family law matters successfully. That means with a minimum of pain and distress now, and with maximum advantage for starting a new and better life tomorrow.

I strongly agree with therapist Constance Ahrons, who, in her book The Good Divorce (1), analyzed long-term studies of divorced couples and concluded:

  • "Even though we have difficulty conjuring up positive images of divorce, the reality is that most people feel their lives improved after their divorce."

We'll do the work. You do the healing.

There are required legal steps in the dissolution of a marriage. Developing a careful legal strategy is the best way to protect your rights. When children are involved, special considerations, sensitivity, and an awareness of the legal and personal ramifications of divorce are also required.

As your divorce lawyer, I will handle the "work" involved in getting a divorce, allowing you to concentrate on healing and putting your new life together. I'll listen to you and learn about your marriage and what brought it to this point. I'll learn what you want by way of a resolution, then fight to get it for you. You'll be kept informed at all times, and you'll make the decisions, but I'll try to make it easier.

Areas of support.
During this period, I'll be helping you in any number of ways. There may be property division matters or even paternity questions to handle. Temporary orders related to custody, visitation, spousal support/alimony, and child support may have to be filed. Discovery actions designed to uncover hidden assets, and the back-and-forth exchange of documents and interrogatories with opposing counsel. If a child custody evaluation is needed, I will get that request before the court. And for matters involving domestic violence, I can ask the court for a temporary restraining order to ensure your safety.

A fast, satisfying resolution.

Throughout the process, my goal will be to get you:

  • The optimum settlement so that you can begin your new life, with

  • A minimum of pain, time, and indignity so long associated with divorce

Most often, my goal is to work with your spouse's attorney and thereby avoid the need for a trial. But even with my knowledge and skill, sometimes there's no choice but to litigate. In or out of the courtroom, you can count on me to be your aggressive advocate who will fight with every ounce of her strength to protect your best interests.
