Practice Areas Overview

At the Law Office of Barbara E. McNamara, we follow a new and different approach to divorce and family law.

Practice Area Overview We understand that when our clients come to us, they are coming with some of the biggest, most critical issues they'll be facing in their lifetimes. While no attorney can't make the resolution of some of these issues easy, we can make them easier, and that's what we do by:

  • Working to attain maximum settlements that meet the goals of our clients for their new lives

  • Insulating our clients from the pain, hassles, and indignities that have so long been associated with divorce and family law cases

Our areas of practice include:

Divorce.

Psychologists say that a divorce is one of the most stressful events that a person can endure in his or her lifetime. (But then, if you're going through a divorce, you already know that!) It's also an increasingly common event—with more than 1 out of 2 marriages in America now ending in divorce, it's something that most of us will have to face one day or another.

It is my goal to make divorce less painful for our clients, yet at the same time more successful in achieving their goals. As a concerned divorce lawyer, I work to resolve the divorce quickly and with minimal animosity, since in so many cases today the former partners will have to continue to have a relationship as parents of any children in the marriage.

Custody and Visitation.

In today's world, custody and visitation issues are more complex than ever. More mothers are working more hours, more fathers are taking on more responsibilities for the raising of their children, and all the while questions of what is best for the child become more and more complex. As a mother myself, no one takes these issues more seriously than I do, and no one fights more vigorously for the rights of her clients and their children.

Paternity.

Here's another area of family law that seems to get more common—and more complicated—every day. A single woman has a baby and is not sure who the father is, or she thinks she knows who the father is, but doesn't want to have anything more to do with him, so she files for support from the County. Or the mother is married, but her husband's not the baby's father and she is worried about parental rights and potential support issues. In each of these cases, paternity law comes into play and can have a huge impact on all the lives involved.
